Ogun State Command of Nigeria Police says it has shot dead an armed robbery suspect along Shagamu/Benin expressway in the early hours of today, September 4, 2020

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in Ogun State, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said in a statement that the robber was shot dead following a distress call received by the police in Ijebu-Ife that a gang of armed robbers in military camouflage fully armed had blocked the expressway and were dispossessing motorists of their valuables.

Mr Oyeyemi, who explained that the robbers engaged anti-robbery team as well as a team of special anti-robbery squads deployed to the scene in a gun battle, said one of the hoodlums was shot dead while others escaped into the nearby bush with various degrees of gunshot injuries. 

The Police spokesman in the state pointed out that two mock guns, a cell phone, assorted charms and a torch were recovered from the scene of the incident.

He said the corpse of the dead robber had been deposited in the mortuary, while efforts were on to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang.

 Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Ajogun who lauded his men for their gallant display directed the thorough combing of the entire area to bring the escaped members of the gang to justice.
