Reactions have started trailing the Independent National Electoral Commission’s, INEC, declaration of the incumbent governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki as the winner of the September 19 2020 gubernatorial election.

In a live speech shortly the announcement, Governor Obaseki stated that Edo people had expressed their choice.

He expressed appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for upholding the tenet of free and fair election, allowing the security services to perform their constitutional role, thus showing to Nigerians and the world that the country was capable of conducting credible election.

 The Edo helmsman also thanked PDP stakeholder and the electorate.

Reacting to the result of the poll, President Muhammadu Buhari, in a Tweet by his personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmad, congratulated Governor Godwin Obaseki and urged him to show grace and humility in victory.

The president is quoted as saying, “My commitment to free and fair elections is firm, because without free and fair elections, the foundation of our political and moral authority will be weak.”

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, while congratulating Governor Obaseki and his deputy for their re-election also gave kudos to PDP National Campaign Council for Edo State.  

Governor Aminu Tambuwa of Sokoto State, while felicitating with Godwin Obaseki, described the victory as well deserved for the Peoples Democratic Party.
