Hakeem Adegbenro from the Federated Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has emerged champions of the maiden edition of SWAN/Oba Akamo Table Tennis tournament.

Adegbenro defeated his opponent, Abiodun Jimoh by two straight sets of 11-8 and 11-7 in the final game of the competition played at the NUJ Secretariat, Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde of Ogun State Television, OGTV, beat Rafiu Alarape of Consolidated Chapel 14-12, 11-8 to finish as the second runner-up.

Ogun State SWAN Chairman, Alhaji Akeem Akintunde explained that competition was organized to ensure that the sports journalists have a deeper and practical understanding of the sport to enhance their reportage.

The Ogun SWAN Chairman noted that arrangements had been concluded to stage SWAN/Speaker Football Club across the twenty local government areas of the state as soon as the federal government lifts the suspension on contact sports in the country.

He commended the efforts of the sponsors and other stakeholders for their contributions towards the success of the two day tournament.

In a remark, the sponsor of the tournament who is the Olu of Itori, Oba Akorede Akamo promised to support the sports writers in the development of the game at the grassroots level.

High point of the tournament was the presentation of trophy and cash rewards to the winners.

Sixteen members of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria participated in the competition.
