Ogun State Government has commenced second phase of community-based Covid-19 Testing across the twenty local government areas of the state to reduce community transmission.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker in a statement made available in Abeokuta said the decision to domesticate Covid-19 testing in all the councils was on recommendation to improve early case detection and treatment of both Symptomatic and asymptomatic cases. 

The commissioner explained that the testing which is free, commences with mobile testing in five major markets in each of the local government before the facilities are stationed at designated Primary Health Centres.

She noted that community leaders had been engaged to support and give assistance to mobilize people for the testing.

Dr. Coker also revealed that samples collection are to be carried out in specified primary healthcare center noting that health personnel have been trained for this purpose. 

The Commissioner, who urged residents to present themselves for the testing, revealed that the testing will be carried out on five work days of the week for the next 3 months in all the twenty local government areas between the hours of eight in the morning and three in the afternoon.

The first round of the community sampling was carried out in April at the peak of the pandemic in the state across all local government areas.
