A fashion designer, Lukman Adeniyi has been charged to court after he was allegedly assaulted by his accuser, a Divisional Police Officer in charge of Iyaganku Division in Ibadan, Oyo State Police Command, CSP Alex Sani Gwazah, over the DPO’s claim that he damaged the clothes given to him to sew.

Adeniyi was arraigned on Tuesday, November 3, at Court 8, Magistrates’ Court, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

The DPO had earlier accused the defendant of damaging his clothes worth 181,000 naira which he gave Adeniyi to sew in September.

Gwazah claimed that the sewn 12 pieces of clothes delivered to him by the defendant, were made by an apprentice, which was against the agreement they had.

The Magistrate of the court, Olajumoke Akande who granted the defendant bail of 50,000 naira, with two persons as surety in like sum, adjourned the case till November 17, 2020, for further hearing.

Earlier, the defendant, Adeniyi, explained that DPO was introduced to him by one Alhaji Idris Bawa who had been his customer for over ten years.

He said the DPO had slapped him on the day he delivered the twelve materials given him on the allegation that his clothes were not well sewn.

The fashion designer further explained that, the Gwazah collected all the sewn materials without payment despite the sixty thousand naira agreement reached.

Adeniyi said the DPO invited him to come for his money last Saturday but when he got there, the DPO immediately ordered that he be detained.

Counsel to the defendant, Jubril Olanrewaju who described the DPO’s action as an abuse of office expressed confidence that justice will be served.

Another human rights lawyer, Mr Ademola Salami lamented that the action of Gwaza could make more people lose confidence in the police force.
