Worried by the high cost of living in Ekiti State, Governor Kayode Fayemi has declared a state of Emergency on prices of goods and services which has placed the burden on residents of the state.

Also, he said government would soon constitute a committee to fashion out modalities for the regulation and control of the prices of goods and services.

The governor, through his Chief of Staff,  Mr Biodun Omoleye, told the gathering that government could no longer fold its arms and allowed such situation to linger on in the interest of the people

He appealed to the drivers unions to reduce the transport fare while government would assist them financially as part of its socio responsibility to interest groups in the state.

Representatives of drivers unions in their separate remarks mentioned high rate of development levy, renewal of Vehicles Particulars, fuel price hike as some factors responsible for hike in transport fare.

They also blamed the situation on the dire economy situation in the country and implored the Federal Government to put in place necessary policies that would ameliorate the sufferings of the common man.

Deputy Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Akeem Jamiu, Commissioner for Information, Mr  Akinbowale omole, Chairman, Ado Local Government, Motunde Fajuyi and other top Government functionaries who spoke passionately, urged the drivers unions to do the needful by reducing the fare now that yuletide period was around the corner.
