Oyo State is to hold World Super Feather Weight Championship on December 27th this month.

The Chairman, Local Organizing Committee, Olawale Okuniyi disclosed this while leading members of LOC to present the belt for the competition to Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde at the Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.

Speaking on the competition, the chairman, LOC, Olawale Okuniyi recalled that the last time Ibadan hosted such event was in 1963 at Liberty stadium, 57 years ago

He said a Nigeria boxer, Rilwan Adekola a.k.a Scorpion an indigene of Ibadan will be slugging it out with an Argentine, Lucas Matias Montesino in Ibadan.

Okuniyi, while soliciting the support of Oyo State Government for a hitch free event, declared that the bout would also boost the revenue of the state.

The LOC chairman lauded Governor Makinde-led government’s commitment to youths and sports development in the state.

Also speaking, the Co-chairman of the LOC, Rafiu Ladipo, who is president of Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, maintained that  the association had belief in the Nigerian fighter Rilwan Oyekola.

He urged Oyekola not to indulge in acts which could jeopardize his outing on the World Super Feather Championship slated for December 27th this month.

In a remark, Governor Makinde, who spoke through Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Olubamiwo Adeosun, while noting that the state was committed to sports development pledged the readiness of the present government to support the competition.

Governor Makinde admonished the Super Feather Weight fighter to make Oyo State and Nigeria proud in the forthcoming competition.
