The Delta State Government says over nineteen thousand students of the state origin have begun receiving the payment for 2019/2020 bursary across one hundred and forty-eight institutions across the nation.
The Executive Secretary Delta State Scholarship Board, Mr Sunday Oritsedere, made this known in Asaba, where he said the sum of twenty thousand naira was being paid to each of the students, while the process would terminate next week.
Mr Oritsedere explained a total of nineteen thousand eight hundred and seventy-five students had been earmarked to receive the bursary, out of twenty-six thousand, eight hundred and ninety-one applicants for the scheme.
The Executive Secretary noted that payments for the 2019/2020 session were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other economic factors after the portal for registration was opened between March and April this year.
He added that other areas of intervention by the Delta State Scholarship Board included financial assistance to Law School students, children of deceased civil servants and persons living with disabilities.
