The former deputy governor of Ekiti State, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko has stressed the need for caution against stigmatisation of persons living with disabilities. 

Surveyor Aluko stated this while speaking at an outreach programme organised by a non-governmental organisation, Action for the Advancement of Women and Girls for the association of visually impaired persons and children at the government special school for the blind in Ikere Ekiti.

The former deputy governor explained that persons with disabilities are part of the society hence the need to show them love and compassion.

He urged them not to relent at developing their capacities because there is ability in disability.

Also speaking, a philanthropist, Abiodun Olowolafe advised the visually impaired persons to showcase their talents so that they would be empowered to stand on their own.

Earlier the convener of the programme who is a journalist, Mrs Olufisoye Adenitan said the purpose was to show love and compassion to the socially disadvantaged and less privileged in the society.

Mrs Adenitan said the NGO would continue to embark on more life changing programmes that would better the lives of the disabled persons.

In a remark, the chairman of the association, Mr Olajide Olatunbosun appreciated the kind gesture and appealed for more government attention to the plight of the visually impaired children.

The chairperson, Ekiti NAWOJ Council, Alhaja Fatima Bello presented some of the items on behalf of the NGO to the representative of the principal of the school for the blind.

Over twenty women went home with different food items and children wears, items were also given to boarding students in the school.
