Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police has arrested three men for allegedly beating a 23 year old boy to death over phone theft.
The three men, Ugo Obi, Chinonso Jude and Chibuke Samson were arrested after the father of the victim, Mr Gbenga Ajibade reported at Onipanu Divisional Headquarters that his son Samuel Ajibade was accused of stealing two mobile phones and beaten to death.
In a statement in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Police spokesperson, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the DPO Onipanu Division, Mr Bamidele Job led his detectives to the scene where the three suspects were arrested.
Mr oyeyemi explained that the quick intervention of the police saved the suspects from being lynched by an angry mob after realizing that the young man was dead.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.
