One of the Notable Secondary Schools in Oka, Ondo Town, C.A.C Grammar School, has become a shadow of itself as the infrastructure in the college has decayed.

Our correspondent who visited the school reports that the condition of the teaching-learning environment calls for urgent intervention.

The Roofs, doors and wall of Classrooms of the Secondary school established in 1979 have become an eyesore just as ceilings of the buildings were already caving in on students. leaving them to wallow under rain and sun.

Despite the poor condition of the infrastructure, teachers and their students have no alternatives as they daily conduct their activities in the dilapidated classrooms which posed threat to their lives.

The school has also become a safe haven for reptiles such as Lizards and the one of the dreaded animals, snake.

Another sad thing about the 42 year old CAC grammar school, oka,  Ondo is that majority of the classrooms with about thirty students in each have just few furniture, compelling many students to stand during class sessions, while others scramble to occupy the few chairs and desks.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the school authority and the parent body had written letters of assistance to government agencies including NDDC,SUBEB, OSOPADEC without response.

In an interaction with some members of the Parent Teachers Association of the school, it was learnt that the parents mobilised funds to renovate six blocks of classroom and the school toilet when the condition became  unbearable  for the students.

Chairman of the PTA, Mr. oluwawaleyinmi Adegbulugbe, an old student of the school and pastor of a CAC church ,Mr Temidayo  Fapohunda  said the church was contacted for support but, since government had taken over ownership and management of the school, the church mission intervention was restricted.

Some of the students, Tosin Adeniran , Bola Olufunso and  olafisi Esther said the dilapidated condition of their school and lack of modern learning facilities were no doubt impacting negatively on their learning process.

They lamented that the situation was getting worse by the day as no help was in sight for the rehabilitation of the forty two year old building which has produced many prominent Nigerians.

While stressing that learning under the current condition of the school was not a pleasant experience, the students called on concerned authorities as well as highly spirited individuals to come to their aid by helping them to fix the decayed infrastructure.

Also speaking, some of the teachers who spoke on the condition of anonymity noted that teaching and learning in the school during rainy season was always a harrowing experience.

They appealed to both government and philanthropists to assist C.A.C grammar school, Oka, Ondo in terms of provision of befitting structures for the students to learn under a conducive atmosphere so that there hope of becoming leaders in future would not be truncated.
