Federal government says it will give humanitarian assistance to the affected persons of the Shasha mayhem in Akinyele local government area of Oyo state between an indigene and a settler.

The Director General,National Emergency Management Agency,Air Vice Marshal Muhammadu Muhammed Retired stated this while speaking with journalists after an assessment of the market to ascertain the level of damage.

The NEMA DG who spoke through the agency’s Director Relief and Rehabilitation,Dr Onimode Bandele said the agency had worked on an interim report submitted by sister agency for the humanitarian support.

Air Vice Marshal Muhammadu Muhammed urged the affected traders to cooperate with a team of the agency for necessary measures.

“The NEMA is working with other stakeholders.They have submitted an Interim report which we have worked on and processed.we are aware that this unfortunate incident has led to displacement of citizens at different locations in Sabo ,Shasha,some are in Oojo,Akinyele”.

“Humanitarian assistance are being processed for them and very soon, it will be ready”.

In line with the president’s directive,the DG NEMA Air Vice Marshal Muhammadu Muhammed Retired has constituted a team of officers of the agency working in colllaboration with state emergency management agency and other relevant agencies to visit Shasha,the scene of the incident and conduct an indept assessment of what happened.

“What happened was an unfortunate incident,the government sympathises with you”.

“I want to appeal to the community that when the team of assessor come around to do their job,please give them adequate cooperation.We should allow them to get an indept of what happened”.

“Even if they are going to give additional information,please let’s do it in an atmosphere of peace and ease of communication.it is when you talk to us and we listen to you that we are are able to get the essence of what we are looking for”.

Some of the traders in an interview with Radio Nigeria enjoined the federal government to hasten the humanitarian assistance proposed for them.

places visited by NEMA team are the palaces of Serkin Sabo and Shasha including the house of the Baale of Shasha community.

On arrival, the NEMA team accompanied by the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency SEMA paid a courtesy visit to Deputy Governor of the state, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan.

Engineer Olanyan who is also the chairman of SEMA in Oyo state appreciated federal government for the gesture.
