In a bid to improve education in the state, Oyo State Government has approved the upgrade of the Emmanual Alayande College of Education, Oyo to a university of education to contribute in producing competent teachers with required skills.

This was part of the resolutions reached after the weekly Executive Council meeting in Ibadan.

Addressing newsmen, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Olasunkanmi Olaleye said the institution had all the required human and material resources to fully transform into a full fledge University.

Mr Olaleye noted that Emmanuel Alayande College of Education has operated some affiliate degree programmes with other Nigerian Universities over the years and has shown the capacity to be transformed into Emmanuel Alayande University of Technology to provide mainly degree programmes in education.

Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Bashir Bello has said about 128,000 Astrazeneca COVID-19 vaccines received from the Federal Government are currently subjected to sterility test before administering to residents in view of global concerns on the vaccine.

Dr Bello noted that adequate arrangement were being made to ensure adequate precautions on the vaccination procedure
