Nigerians have been advised to constructively engage themselves to resolve the security challenges confronting the nation.

This was part of the joint statement issued by Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his guest, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi after their meeting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.

The meeting according to the statement was part of the continued efforts to find solutions to the insecurity situation in the country including the menace of banditry, kidnapping and ransom payment.

Former President Obasanjo who received the delegation led by Sheikh Gumi at his residence at Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in company of traditional and religious leaders in Ogun state was briefed by Sheikh Gumi on measures and steps taken to stem the tide of insecurity in many parts of the North.

According to the statement the discussion was centred on causes, effects and implications of actions and reactions to security problems by stakeholders.

The two delegations urged Nigerians to desist from attaching ethnic religion and regional dimensions to crimes.

The meeting while condemning criminal acts also encouraged more of stick and carrot approach solutions to the insecurity as may be found necessary by the government and also called for sharing of information at all levels.

The two delegations have also agreed to meet again in Kaduna to re-examine progress and situation of security in Nigeria.
