Taxi drivers in Ondo State have been given three months ultimatum to register their cabs.
The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr. Doyin Odebowale gave the directive while addressing newsmen in Akure, the state capital
Dr. Odebowale said the registration for each cab would take two thousand naira with the state information technology agency, SITA
The Governor’s special Assistant hinged the new cab registration on the alleged security lapses on the account of some fraudulent cab drivers in the state
He said temporary stickers would be boldly imprinted on vehicles with identity cards to the registered drivers while the private vehicles serving as cabs would be impounded
Dr. Odebowale also urged passengers to always patronize the registered cabs noting that the move was to secure lives and property from criminally minded people masquerading as cab operators.
In a remark, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Kayode Ogundele enjoined the public to cooperate with government in this regards.
