The Osun State House of Assembly has passed of the Osun State Legislative Fund Management Bill 2021 and the Osun State Judiciary Fund Management Bill 2021.

The Assembly also passed the Osun Private Veterinary Premises and Ambulatory Practice (Regulatory) Bill 2021 to prevent unregistered and quacks veterinary doctors from practicing as well as improve the state’s Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.

The bills were read for the third time after a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Mr. Maruf Olanrewaju.

In his remark, the speaker, Mr. Timothy Owoeye, said the passage of the Legislative and Judiciary Fund Management Bills would guarantee the autonomy of the the Legislative and Judiciary arm of government.

Mr. Owoeye also noted that the passage of the bills would enhance separation of powers, saying no arm of government should be subjected to another.

He maintained that the Assembly now has the right to do carry out its legislative activities without any interference from or dependence on the executive.

The speaker said the Judiciary can also discharge their constitutional functions without involvement from any other arm of government.

It will be recalled that the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN, and the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, had earlier this year embarked on strike to demand for financial autonomy for the legislature and judiciary.

The House had earlier dissolved into the Committee of the Whole for consideration of the Osun State Animal Gracing Regulation and Cattle Ranches Establishment Bill 2021.
