FG Pays Backlog Of Conditional Cash Transfer In Oyo

In fulfilment of the Social Investment agenda of President Muhammadu Buhari, thirteen thousand, eight hundred and thirty poor of the poorest households in Oyo state are currently receiving backlog of their monthly conditional cash transfer

The conditional cash transfer of the social investment scheme commenced in 2016 after a careful selection of the poorest households in the remotest rural areas across the 33 local governments.

The cash transfer with Household Upliftment Programme, HUP, as a component has three categories; the base which entitles beneficiaries to receive N5,000 monthly, the top up qualifying beneficiaries to have an additional N5,000 based on selected additional responsibilities.

Third category identified as livelihood according to the state coordinator, cash transfer, Mr Ezekiel Oladipo is yet to be implemented by the federal government.

Suspension of the payment in June 2020 led to some of the beneficiaries receiving N30,000 and N50,000 depending on their category.

During an assessment of the exercise at Ibadan Southwest And Ona Ara Local Government, beneficiaries made up of poor aged men and women, physically challenged and widows tendered their identity cards and confirmation code to the paid agent before receiving their cash.

The beneficiaries including Mr Jimoh Ogundeji, Mrs Tawakalit Tajudeen and Mrs Abosede Atunbi described the recommencement of the conditional cash transfer payment as a timely succour in the hardest time of their life.

State coordinator, Cash transfer unit of the social investment scheme, Mr Ezekiel Oladipo some state including oyo state were selected for the implementation of the analogue payment adding that ten states excluding oyo state were being test run for the digital payment system of the cash transfer by the federal government.

Chairmen of the councils visited Mr Adigun Adeniyi and Sanusi Adesina urged the beneficiaries to utilize the cash profitably to uplift their wellbeing.

The exercise continues in other local government areas outside Ibadan.
