Journalists in the South West have been called upon to conduct in depth investigation and analysis into health related issues in the society in an effort to draw relevant stakeholder’s attention to the sector.

The Executive Director, International Press Centre, Mr Lanre Arogundade gave the advice while speaking in Abeokuta, Ogun State at a media workshop on Investigative health care reporting organized with supports from the US Consulate General Lagos.

Mr Arogundade also stressed the need for Journalists to move from the era of quick news and event coverage reporting as these had made Journalists to be the mouth piece of such organisations especially government related issues and stories.

The IPC Executive Director also called on Media Organizations to provide an enabling environment for their reporters to operate in order to create more awareness and education campaigns on health related issues.

Also speaking, the acting US Consul General, Mr Stephen Ibelli said the United State decided to support the workshop to provide the needed checks and balances for journalists in an effort to fulfill their obligations as members of the fourth estate of the realm especially in all aspects of the health sector.

In the lecture entitled, Media as effective catalyst of fundamental health Care reforms, The Project Director, Development Communication Network, Mr Jimoh Akinlabi believed that the greater journalists involved in information research on health issues, the more convinced the members of the public become which spurs them to take action on their health status and policies.
