The governor of Osun State. Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola says, conscious efforts must be made to bring Nigerian youths together, dissuade their minds from every voice of hate and disintegration.

The governor stated this while flagging-off, the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, 2021 Zonal Sports and Cultural Festival at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ede, Osun state.

Governor Oyetola explained that because of the demographic relevance and capacity of the young persons, a Nigeria that is united in its diversity should be built through activities that bring young people together.

Represented by his Commissioner for Youths and Sport Development, Mr. Yemi Lawal, the governor described culture and sports as the most formidable tools to achieve such a goal.

Governor Oyetola admonished the participants to see the event beyond mere competitive activities for trophies, but one that provided opportunity for them to further appreciate the beauty in other culture and capacity of other people.

In a keynote address, the Director of the NYSC Southwest Area Office, Mrs. Funmilayo Akin-Moses said the event was initiated thirty-five years ago to showcase talents and further foster national unity.

Mrs. Akin-Moses admonished the participating corps members not to see the event as a do or die affair but to show magnanimity in victory, maturity and take its advantage to further build relationship.

In his opening remark, the Osun State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Adewale Adegoke stated that the cultural festival was to appreciate divergent social talents and God-given resources in the corporate existence as a man as well as the rhythm and rhymes of social heritage.

Mr. Adegoke described sports as event that availed unity of interest with focus on success, bringing all folks together irrespective of religion, ethnicity, language, gender and social background.

The Osun NYSC commended the Director General of the scheme for promoting activities that enable the corps members develop their mind and spirit at a time when Nigeria needs to embrace love and unity for progress.

In a goodwill message, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Dr. Adekolawole Taiwo, who was represented by the school’s Director of Students Affairs, Dr. Olufemi Omotoso maintained that Nigeria was better together as a united nation, hence all hands must be on deck to promote her unity.

The Zonal NYSC Sport and Cultural Festival holding in Osun State has Lagos, Edo, Ekiti, Oyo, Ondo and Ondo States serving Corps members.

They are participating in three sports including Football, Volleyball and Athletics as well as cultural dance.
