The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mr. Usman Alkali Baba says machinery have been put in place to commence the recruitment of about 20,000 junior police officers into the Nigeria police force.

The IGP stated this when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state at the Agodi, Secretariat, Ibadan.

He stressed that the recruitment exercise would not only expand the capacity of the force in combating crime but to help community policing strategy

Mr. Alkali- Baba added that the recruitment exercise would cut across all local government areas in the country as trained junior officers would be posted to their communities to complement the community policing strategy. 

The Inspector-General explained that his visit was a duty tour across the country to interact with his men and boost their morale and appealed for continuous support from the Oyo state government.

Responding, Governor Makinde said the relationship between Oyo state police command and other security agencies has been cordial noting that inter-agency rivalry has significantly reduced in the state.

Governor Makinde appealed to the Inspector General of police to reconsider the situating of a mobile police squadron in Oyo town .

The Governor promised to always render necessary assistance to the police command and other security agencies for a safe and secured Oyo state.
