Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC ), Osun Command has cautioned motorists on the need to be safety conscious during the ember months to prevent accidents that could lead to loss of lives and properties .
The Zonal Commanding Officer in Charge of Osun, Oyo and Ondo , Mr Emmanuel Abe , made this known during the 2021 Ember Months Campaign Flag-off in Ile-Ife(Toll Gate ) Osun .
The Theme of the ember months campaign flag-off is entitled : Maintain Safe Speed , Avoid Night Travels And Enjoy Quality Road Experience .”
Mr Abe explained that the annual event was a symbolic practice being sustained by the corps leadership to heightened safety consciousness and awareness among road users.
He noted that the event provided avenue for relevant stakeholders to addressed certain safety issues within the zonal command to help reduced accidents.
The FRSC Zonal Commander urged the motoring public to complied and aligned themselves with the 2021 ember months theme to compliment the efforts of the FRSC and reducing accidents in the zone .
He , therefore , called for a collective safety responsibilities to awakened the safety consciousness of motoring public to help mitigate against dangerous driving .
In his address of welcome , the Osun Sector Commander , Mr Paul Okpe , said the ember campaign became paramount in order to reduce road traffic accidents, and also to achieve zero road traffic crashes.
Mr Okpe explained that the safety corps would not relent in its safety Strategies to motorparks , churches , mosques, in order to inform , educate and sensitise road users on the dangers of dangerous driving.
According to him, the use phone while driving , speeding , overloading , route violation , unlatched containers among others, leads to high rate of accidents during ember months.
The ember months campaign flag -off witnessed the presence of the NURTW members , government officials , special marshals , NYSC , traditional rulers and religious clerics , and other key stakeholders including security sister agencies
