As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark teachers’ day, some stakeholders in the sector have urged Governments at all levels in Nigeria to revive the basic education in the country.

National President, Basic Education Staff Association of Nigeria, BECAN, Mrs Dorcas Abuge who spoke in an interview with Radio Nigeria revealed that the sorry state of basic education in the country has been responsible for poor enrollment in government schools across the country.

On his part, the State Chairman of BECAN, Mr. Temitope Fatoki said primary school teachers in Oyo State and other parts of the country are being marginalized.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Trade Union Congress in Oyo State, Mr. Emmanuel Ogundiran lauded governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts on education, noting that Primary school teachers have always been at the receiving end.

Another primary school teacher, Mrs Ranti Oluwemimo charged teachers in the basic education system to remain committed and patriotic despite the challenges facing them.
