A one-time Chairman of Oye Local Government of Ekiti State, Mr. Bamitale Oguntoyinbo says, “The Direct Primaries Bill”, recently passed by the National Assembly will bring about the emergence of popular candidates during primary elections of various political parties when it becomes law.

Speaking with newsmen in Ado Ekiti, Mr. Oguntoyinbo noted that the bill would address the issues of imposition of unpopular candidates, godfatherism, money bag politics, insincerity and bribery of delegates during primary elections.

He lauded members of the National Assembly for deeming it fit to pass the new amendment in the Electoral Law which he noted would assist the nation’s democracy.

The former council chairman, however, appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to give assent to the Direct Primaries Bill to become law in the country.
