The federal government and other relevant authorities have been urged to ensure prompt payment of the entitlements of Ex-servicemen while they are still alive and give priority to the welfare of the widows and orphans of the fallen heroes.

The Provost, Cathedral of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta, the Very Reverend Isaac Adeniji, made the plea in a sermon entitled “Heroes of Faith, Our strength” 

during a Special Church Service to commemorate this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration in Ogun State.

The Very Reverend Adeniji maintained that the world had witnessed what he called many senseless wars leading to the loss of millions of lives. 

He urged Nigerians to continue to pray for those who lost their lives in the course of maintaining peace in the country while also assisting the families that survived them.

In a remark, Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun noted that the Armed Forces Remembrance Day was to celebrate the Ex servicemen and fallen heroes for their ultimate act of patriotism advised the people to display their love for the country and protect public infrastructure. 

The Governor announced that his administration would soon send a bill to the  House of Assembly for punitive measures against anyone found to be involved in the vandalism of public infrastructure and utilities in the state.
