Journalists have been advised to always maintain professionalism and prioritise national interest in their news reportage.

Special adviser to immediate past governor of Oyo State, on media, Mr. Bolaji Tunji gave the advice in Ibadan, while featuring on ‘’Political Space’’, a Radio Nigeria, political programme.

Mr. Tunji urged journalists to be responsible in the discharge of their statutory role as watchdog of the society by verifying facts, regulating analysis and balancing their stories.

The former media aide called on media practitioners to be guided by the necessity to improve situations and not aggravating tensed atmosphere.

Mr. Tunji noted that media freedom in Nigeria was guaranteed to some extent in Nigeria, saying rights of journalists were more respected under democratic rule without harassment or illegal detention.

He also advocated better welfare for media workers due to the challenging nature of their job.

Mr. Tunji equally advised journalists to deploy their creative ideas to add more value to themselves.

Callers on the programme called for life insurance and better remuneration package for journalists to justify the passion and risks associated with their official assignments.
