To reduce cases of auto crashes in the state, Oyo State Government has inaugurated Road Safety Advisory Council (SORSAC).

The Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi  Makinde, Mr Segun Ogunwuyi is the chairman of 10 – man council.

Inaugurating the council at the Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan, Governor Makinde said the task before it was to work on how to stem the incessant cases of crashes across the state in view of the high rate of crashes been recorded in the state.

“Because our roads are getting better so also the rate at which people are crashing their vehicles is also getting higher.

“In fact, the reason we are constructing world-class roads and infrastructure is because we want people to enjoy driving on those roads.

“Apart from the roads targeting our economy and connecting our zones, we want people to experience real pleasure driving on these roads.

“But what you see is that people start speeding anyhow on the roads.

“Now, we have to put speed bumps, which again will make driving not pleasurable, so, we have real challenges to deal with.

“Apart from educating drivers, the council have to let them and passengers know that if somebody is already drunk there is no need for them to risk their lives,” he said.

Governor Makinde called for the replication of the council at the local level promising that his administration would give necessary support to the committee.

Members of the committee are Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Daud Sangodoyin; Commissioner for Health, Dr Bode Ladipo; Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo and Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr AbdulRamoh AbdulRaheem.

Other members include Commissioner for Finance, Mr Akintola Ojo; Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Mr Abiodun Oni and Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof Musibau Babatunde.
