It is imperative to ensure gender balance in Nigerian political space to allow women contribute their quota to national development.

A Former Governorship Candidate in Oyo state, Mrs Bolanle Sarumi-Aliyu made the assertion while featuring on political space, an interview programme on Radio Nigeria, Ibadan.

Mrs Sarumi-Aliyu pointed out that women possessed natural multi-task skills which could useful in politics and governance.

Mrs Sarumi-Aliyu, who is the founder, BASA Foundation, a nongovernmental organization, advised the national assembly to reconsider their position on the recently rejected gender bills, especially on the 35% affirmative action for women and discrimination against women in indigenship/citizenship status.

Mrs Sarumi-Aliyu urged women to keep forging ahead and develop passion to join political parties that shared their ideology.

Mrs Sarumi-Aliyu also appealed to women in politics to mentor younger ones, while also calling on professionals to join politics to reduce incidence of money politics.
