Students of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU Ile-Ife have pleaded with the people of the ancient community to follow due process in their quest to have an indigenous person as the vice chancellor of the institution.

The students made the plea on the heels of the ongoing protest in the host community by the people agitating for the appointment of a vice chancellor from Ile-Ife extraction.

According to the student, the development had grounded academic and non-academic activities of the campus.

A student who identified himself as Israel complained that the protesters had blocked the school entrance preventing vehicular and human movement in and out of the campus.

An academic, Dr Akintade Akinbayoje said action of the protesters was not justifiable in the academic parlance as appointment of vice chancellor all over the country was by contest and merit.

Doctor Akinbayoje advised the people of Ile-Ife against setting a bad precedence in the education sector.

It would be recalled that the problem started last week after appointment of Professor Adebayo Bamire as the successor to the former vice chancellor of OAU, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede.
