The long arm of the law has caught up with a suspected murderer of a 25 years old Barakat at Jibola Afonja in Oyo town, Tiamiyu Abass.

The suspected murderer was paraded alongside thirty other suspected criminals who were arrested for various offences by the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State,  Mrs Ngozi Onadeko. 

Confessing, Abass said he was an herbalist and the deceased, Barakat was one of his customers. 

He narrated that the deceased came to his house for spiritual consultation and that he cut off her head with cutlass and removed some of her body parts for money ritual.

Abass said he was apprehended by the public while trying to drop the remains of the body at a river beside his house. 

Another suspect, Seyi a farm owner at Olohunda, Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State, was said to have allegedly killed one taxi driver who had been robbing him on his farm.

The suspect who was in unlawful possession of fire arms confessed to have beaten the deceased to death and dumped his corpse at Olohunda area in order to cover his criminal act.

Also, a notorious self confessed armed robber, Ayobami Erinfolami said he specialized in robbing hospitals, hotels and was part of the gang that invaded Fresh FM in Challenge area of Ibadan.

Other suspects who were paraded for various offences confessed to the crime leveled against them and pleaded for leniency. 

Parading the suspects, Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mrs Ngozi Onadeko said the Command through purposeful proactive policing had continuously redesigned its security architecture to catch up with both existing and emerging security concerns. 

“While appreciating the cooperation enjoyed from members of the public, relevant sister agencies, media, and non-state actors in reducing crime to its barest minimum, the Command wishes to appeal to all and sundry against spreading fake news and indulging in the condemnable act of jungle justice as it destroys evidence, distorts investigation and denies the accused “right to fair-hearing”.

In the same vein, the Command’s Monitoring and X-Squad units have been effectively mobilized across the length and breadth of the State to ensure utmost professionalism from the Officers and men as they discharge their duties incompliance with standard best practice.

In conclusion, I urge the good people of Oyo State not to forget “If you see something! Please say something…”

The Commissioner therefore promised to charge the suspects to court after proper investigations. 

Exhibits found with the suspects included 18 Arms, 11 ammunitions, 8 vehicles, 4 motorcycles and some other criminal items.
