An afternoon rainstorm on Sunday has wreaked havoc at Ijeun Akoni village of Odeda Local Government area of Ogun State injuring some residents and destroying property worth millions of naira.

According to the residents, about ten houses, two churches, and a primary school were affected by the rainstorm.

Some of the properties destroyed include those of African Church Primary School, the Ebenezer African Church, and the Cherubim and Seraphim Church Buildings all at the Ijeun Akoni Village.

The Baale of the village, Chief Isaiah Oshoko, and a Community leader Mr. Jimoh Ogunbayo while speaking pleaded with emergency management bodies and the local government to come to the rescue of the people of the community due to the extent of the damages caused by the rainstorm.

The Community Leaders also confirmed that some of the victims including children were still in the hospital receiving treatment.

Other victims of the rainstorm, Mr. Owolabi Ogunbayo, Madam Esther Olabode, and while speaking said the damages caused by the rainstorm as monumental calling for government intervention.

Chairman of Odeda Local Government Area, Mrs. Folashade Adeyemo when contacted on the incident said the council officials will be visiting the village this week for the spot assessment and recommend possible assistance to the community.
