The Olota of Ota in Ogun State, Oba AbdulKabir Obalanlege, has thrown his weight behind the call for the Amotekun Corps to carry firearms against criminals.

The monarch also called for the introduction of community policing so as to curb the insecurity in the country.

The Olota said this during a security summit held in Ota, the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government area of the state.

Oba Obalanlege said he organised the summit due to the state of insecurity in the country with a view to igniting security consciousness in the people of his area.

While advocating for Amotekun to carry firearms because they are the ones closer to the grassroots the monarch also added that “There is need for people to be more security conscious

Also speaking at the summit, Sango Area Commander of the Nigeria Police Force, Muhammed Sanni, cautioned the people against raising false alarm.

Sanni said the command had received series of information, claiming that some herdsmen were trying to invade a community in the area, but, it was later found out to be false.

The Area Commander however urged residents of Ota and its environ to be security conscious at all times and never to take laws into their owns hands but rather work together with security agents for effective policing.
