The Federal Government through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs has begun training for registration officers for the next batch of Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme, GEEP, in Oyo State.

Speaking at the opening ceremony held at the Oyo State National Orientation Agency, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajia Umar Farouq said the workshop was to train community orientation and mobilization officer, COMOS on the digital registration of potential beneficiaries.

Represented by the Oyo State coordinator of the programme, Mrs Funke Olatunji, the minister said the desk officers are to capture all applicants’ data for validation and selection for Trader Moni, Farmer Moni and Market Moni.

She explained that the target beneficiaries for the GEEP monies are the poor and vulnerable Nigerians. 

The minister also hinted that the aim of the programme was to make sure that it met the Federal government’s expected result of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty.

Also speaking, representative of the Oyo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Labake Olayiwola, Dr Ibironke Akinyemi reiterated the need for synergy at all levels to alleviate poverty.

Earlier in an opening address, Oyo State Director, National Orientation Agency, NOA, Mr Kayode Odedokun disclosed that beneficiaries would be between ages 18 and 55 and will have six months moratorium period before repayment of the interest free loan.

The Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP) is an initiative by the Federal Government of Nigeria to provide financial inclusion and access to micro-credit for Nigerians.
