Quite a number of islands with interesting features adorn the world’s landscape. Glimpse this feature about three of them.

Ever heard of Galapagos? It is an island that will interest you for a number of reasons.

Galapagos Island, situated in South America, has more abundant wildlife than any other island in the world. Actually, it is a cluster of 13 different volcanic Islands, but a natural home for many endemic species in the world, some of which cannot be seen anywhere else in the world.

It is the only place where you can see marine lizards, the Galapagos tortoises, Galapagos penguins, fur sea lions, 400 species of fishes, and 800 mollusk species: part of the unique features that make the island a place to savour the pure beauty of nature.

Japan is home to Ōkunoshima or Rabbit Island, which was once the location of several poisonous gas factories.

It is now a rabbit hub with thousands of them hopping on the island. They are believed by some people to be the descendants of the group which was brought there to test poisonous gases while some claim the rabbits to be somehow descended from heaven to pay homage to their original lot.

Christmas Island

Christmas Island occupies Australian territory in the Indian Ocean.

The island is named so, as it was discovered on Christmas day in 1643. Populating the island are 14 species of crabs, which scramble to leave their inland burrows during the rainy season to spawn in the sea. Nearly 140 million crabs make this month-long treacherous five-mile journey to the ocean, albeit all the hurdles of dehydration, dangerous plains, squashing under the vehicles, and crazy herds of yellow ants.
