The Delta State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, says it has arrested two suspected impostors in Okpe local government area of the state for extorting unsuspecting members of the public.
The Public Relations Officer, Dsc. Emeka Okwechime, announced the arrest in statement made available to Radio Nigeria, which notes that the suspects were caught with dangerous items including jack knives, jungle boots and handcuffs.
Mr. Okwechime gave the names of the suspects as one 22 year old Lucky Emofuoreta and Francis Osorochukwu, who were apprehended while using the regalia of the civil defense corps at an illegal checkpoint in Jedo, Okpe.
The statement stresses the arrest followed series of complaints by the public on activities of the supposed officials of corps, before the state Commandant of the NSCDC Iskilu Akinsanya, deployed the Investigation and Enforcement team after the criminals.
It assures members of the public of the commitment of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps to protect lives and properties and to maintain public order in the state.
