Drivers have been advised not to drive beyond 4 hours before they take time to rest for 30 minutes

The Acting Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Deputy Corps Marshal Dauda Biu gave this advice during the end of the year Sensitization campaign for gridlock and crash-prone areas.

Represented by Corps Commander, Charles Edem, the FRSC boss said research had proved that fatigue has the same effect on drivers just like alcoholic drinks, hence the need for drivers to avoid tired driving to ensure safety on roads.

In a remark, Osun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander, Paul Okpe assured that all officers of the command were prepared to work to ensure safety on roads during this yuletide season. He appealed to road users to obey all traffic regulations.

Addressing the gathering, Osun State Coordinator, FRSC Special Marshall, Mr Gbenga Aluko urged road users to be considerate by doing all that would ensure the safety of others on the roads.

Earlier in a welcome address, Commander, FRSC, Ilesa Unit, Olufemi Braimoh explained that Iwaraja junction was selected for the campaign due to the high road crash recorded in the area.

He revealed that Iwaraja junction had recorded 51 crashes since January, involving 432 people with 153 injured and 18 deaths.

The campaign, which had the theme ‘Driving tired is as dangerous as driving drunk, observe 30 minutes rest period after every 4 hours’, was well attended by commercial drivers, commercial tricycles and motorcycle riders.
