As Muslims prepare to celebrate this year’s Eid-el-Fitri, prices of commodities in Akure, Ondo State have remained stable except for soup ingredients and fish which have gone higher.

Radio Nigeria Correspondent who visited Isinkan, Nepa, and Oba markets within Akure metropolis reports that traders lamented low patronage even as the Ramadan fast winds down.

A foodstuffs seller, Mrs Clara Adewuyi said both foreign and Nigerian rice has maintained their prices of between N40,000 and N33,000 while prices of Beans, Gaari, and other staple foods were stable.

A meat seller, Mr Abdullahi Aderounmu who noted that the Ramadan fast affected the supply of cows from the Northern parts of the country maintained that the price of the meat per kilo still falls between N2600 and N2700.

Another trader, Mrs Blessing Idowu explained that prices of condiments did not change as she experienced low patronage.

Prices of tomatoes, Bell pepper, and fish have however gone up as they now rove around N40,000, N8,000, and N41,000 as explained by their sellers, Mrs Nike Fagbamila and Mrs Tawa Kareem.

They attributed the increase in prices of the commodities to the Ramadan fast and the economic situation in the country.

Similarly, some traders in Ibadan, the Oyo State have expressed disappointment on low patronage of their goods and services.

Correspondingly, Olubunmi Agboola, who went around major markets in Ibadan, observed that the festival rush that characterizes the period was nonexistent.
