A former military governor of old Ondo State, Retired Major General Ekundayo Opaleye is dead.

He reportedly died on Saturday at his residence in Ibara Abeokuta, Government Reservation Area, GRA, Ogun State. 

The late High Chief, Balogun Erunmu of Owu Kingdom in Abeokuta was the military governor of old Ondo State, before the creation of present-day Ekiti State, between August 1986 and December 1987, during the regime of former Military President Ibrahim Babangida.

He took over from the late Admiral Mike Akhigbe and handed over to Commodore Olabode George. 

Meanwhile, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has described the sudden demise of the former Ondo State Military governor, as a great loss to Ogun State and Nigeria.

In a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Lekan Adeniran, Governor Abiodun said late Major General Opaleye would be remembered for his patriotism as a military officer and dedication to duty as an administrator. 

The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them of support and prayers at this painful period, while encouraging them to find strength and solace in the memories shared with the late elder statesman.
