Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has assured the management of Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile–Ife that the state government will repair the collapsed amphitheatre.
This followed the collapse of the amphitheatre on Thursday 16, May, 2024, leaving some students injured.
Meanwhile, the management of the University has sealed off the amphitheatre.
In a statement, the spokesperson of the governor, Mallam Olawale Rasheed said Governor Adeleke was shocked by the news of the incident and had directed the Commissioner for Education to liaise with the authorities at the OAU for necessary interventions.
The Governor urged the people of the state to stand in solidarity with the institution, most especially the injured students, and render supports including donation of blood, if required.
In a related development, the Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Professor Adebayo Bamire has led other principal officers to the Medical and Health Centre of the University to ensure that the injured students were given adequate medical attention.
A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that the Vice-Chancellor also followed two other students, whose cases demanded more medical attention to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex , OAUTHC.
The Vice-Chancellor, however, appealed for calm and urged students and staff to go about their activities.
