In order to avoid non- biodegradable pollution in the environment, there is the need to encourage recycling of some wastes such as sachet of nylon and plastic bottles. 

Chairman, Society of Family Physicians of Nigeria, SOFPON, Oyo State Chapter, Dr Oluwafemi Okedare stated this at a news briefing to mark this year World Family Doctor’s Day held at NMA Office, Total Garden, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Dr Okedare explained that the earth is faced with unprecedented challenges from climate change to pollution and habitat destruction capable of causing harm to human health. 

He noted that the environmental changes contributed to a rise in communicable and non Communicable diseases. 

Dr. Okedare said, Family doctors had observed the Health impacts of climate change such as increased respiratory illnesses due to pollution to the spread of vector borne diseases with changing climates. 

He maintained that Family Doctors would promote and improve outcome and lower  emissions by minimizing energy.

Similarly, Public Relations Officer, PRO, of SOFPON, Dr Folajimi Senjobi decried the high rate of carbon emissions emanating from generator, blasting and industrial engines.

Dr  Senjobi called on government and relevant stakeholders to  avoid the use of fossil fuels and combustion engines, calling for utilization of cleaner energy and make it affordable to  people such as  hydro power, solar power and wind energy to safeguard environment rather than causing radiation.
