Residents of Ogun State especially those exposing their waste have been encouraged to resort to containerizing their waste to reduce the spread of the outbreak of Cholera.
The Special Adviser and Managing Director, Ogun State Waste Management Authority, OGWAMA, Mr Abayomi Hunye gave the advice during an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation work at the Kurata Dumpsite in the Ota Area of the state.
Mr Hunye explained that containerizing waste would make both the collection and disposal easy and can be prevented from contaminating the environment.
He noted that exposing waste indiscriminately posed a danger and could be hazardous to the environment especially when it rained which he said would infect the underground water that would lead to waterborne infestation when not purified.
Mr Hunye called on those living in those areas to avoid drinking well, boreholes, as well as sachet water as some of them, might not be fit for human consumption this time around.
He assured the residents that OGWAMA would continue to perform its duties of proper waste management.
