The Delta State Government says the administration has approved an increment in the monthly upkeep stipend for leprosy patients in the state, from May, this year.

The Delta State Commissioner for Women Affairs Princess Pat-Ajudua, made this known at a Leprosy Settlement Center in Eku, in the Ethiope East Local Government area of the state.

Mrs Pat Ajudua, who noted the gesture was the government’s response to cries by members of the community for better welfare, also announced plans for the renovation of facilities at the centre.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Leprosy Settlement Center, Mr Paul Oke, commended the government for the upkeep of residents but urged the ministry to look into other challenges facing members of the community, including lack of medication, electricity and other basic amenities.

The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs Oghenekevwe Agas, and other senior management staff were among the state delegation to the leprosy centre.
