The Nigerian Airforce, NAF, has debunked reports making the round that a helicopter had crashed in Kaduna early on Monday.

A statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information of the NAF, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet says no helicopter crash occurred, rather, an NAF Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) experienced a mishap after take-off for a mission, at a location near Rumji village, and about fifteen kilometres from base.

The statement explains that since it is an unmanned vehicle, there were no casualties on board or on the ground.

The statement points out that a preliminary investigation has since commenced to ascertain what may have caused the mishap.

The NAF frowns at the propensity to always rush to press in the name of “breaking news” without finding out the complete facts.

It calls on media outlets to avoid the attitude as it negates the principle of developmental journalism, balanced reporting and fairness.

The statement also advises media practitioners to always seek clarification from authorized military outlets before rushing to the press.
