The Ogun State Muslim Council, OMC has called for the return of National Sanitation Day in a bid to reduce the outbreak of Cholera in the country.

The OMC General Secretary, Alhaji Kamaldeen Akintunde who made the call in a statement in Abeokuta described the National Sanitation Day as a valued health programme that would influence behavioural change and prevent disease.

Alhaji Akintunde while lauding the federal government for inaugurating a Steering Committee for the “Clean Nigeria: Use the Toilet” campaign, said the initiative was a pragmatic step to arrest the menace of Cholera and other waterborne diseases.

He said there was a need for stakeholders in the health sector to intensify efforts in controlling the disease in some parts of the country.

Alhaji Akintunde also encouraged the public to take water from safe sources and avoid exposed foods and fruits to break the route of transmission
