The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Federal University of Agriculture, FUNNAB, chapter has staged a peaceful protest over the government’s failure to accede to their demands. 

The university workers are protesting the non-release of the four – months withheld salaries by the Federal Government for their involvement in the prolonged strike in the university system during the last administration as it did to the Academic Staff Union Universities, following the approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. 

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, Chairman, SSANU, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta FUNNAB Chapter, Mr Olurotimi Fasunwon explained that the federal government had always neglected the union’s demands since 2022, maintained that the Strike was necessary to register their displeasure, Considering the level of hardship in the country.

Mr Fasunwon said that the warning strike was to sensitize and compel the government to respond to their demands by ensuring prompt payment of the four months’ withheld salaries.

He added that the leadership of the association had planned to embark on a follow-up national protest scheduled in Abuja on July 18, 2024, if the government failed to respond to their demands.
