The Ogun State government has shut down Gbangba market, a popular market located in Ijaye, Abeokuta South Local Government areas due to traders displaying their wares on walkways.

The Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr Tunde Farouk, said the enforcement exercise, followed a series of warnings that the traders failed to heed.

Mr Farouk stressed that government took the action to ensure the safety of residents and traders, as the practice was causing obstruction and congestion in the market as well as affecting the well-being of Pedestrians and traders.

The Special Adviser noted that the traders had been warned several times to stop displaying their wares on the walkway, but failed to comply, which the government had no choice but to shut down the market.

He urged all traders to find alternative means to display their businesses, in designated areas provided by the government.
