Authorities of the Nigerian Police Force have been advised to check the excesses of police personnel coming from Lagos State to harass and make indiscriminate arrests of Ogun State residents, over cases bordering on land matters and chieftaincy issues.

The Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Mr Oludaisi Elemide gave the advice during a plenary at the House, while reacting to the submissions of members on the rising instances of police invasion on residents, by officers and men of Lagos State Police Command, particularly those from Zone 2 Command Headquarters and the FCIID, Alagbon.

Mr Elemide pointed out the need to caution security operatives against going beyond their jurisdictions and promoting the vested interest of some criminal elements, bent on using the force to perpetrate unlawful activities.

He urged the Inspector General of Police to address the situation, emphasizing that with a police command domiciled in the State, operatives from Lagos must not be allowed to harrass innocent residents, adding that the State would not toy with its sovereignty under any guise.

The Speaker also called on the State Attorney General, the Commissioner of Police and the State Commander of Amotekun Corps to activate the necessary security apparatus to tackle criminal activities in the State.
