The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Olabomi, has appealed to Ogun State government to leverage on the University’s agricultural outputs and foster closer collaboration between the State and institution.

Oba Olabomi who is the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land made the plea when he led other Council members of the University including the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babatunde Kehinde on a courtesy visit to Governor Dapo Abiodun at governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

Appealing  for the rehabilitation of the 6 point 5 kilometer access road from Camp Junction to the Ceremonial Gate of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, the traditional ruler said the institution had successful 2-hectare tomato farm cultivated by the Farm Practical Year  students and a bumper harvest from a 22-hectare Bio-Ethanol Cassava Farm.

Responding, Governor Dapo Abiodun who is the Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum underscored the importance of inter-state and regional trade to ensure food security.

Governor Abiodun announced plans to establish Farmers’ Markets at strategic locations across Ogun State, including Asero in Abeokuta and Ogere along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, as part of efforts to enhance food availability.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to agriculture as a means of achieving food security, creating employment, and generating revenue.
