The Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun has admonished youths in the state and the country at large to shelve their planned mass protest and embrace dialogue with the government.
Governor Abiodun gave the admonition at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, during an engagement with the coalition of youth organizations in the state.
The governor appealed to the youths to remain calm and channel their grievances through amicable means, stating that the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed has implemented various programmes that would transform the nation’s economy to better the lives of Nigerians
While appreciating the youth organisations for demonstrating the spirit of Ogun standard, Governor Abiodun called on the youths coalition to always engage his administration by always putting their burning issues before him imploring them to be civil, objective and constructive in their criticisms.
Governor Abiodun noted that his administration since it came on board has ensured that the youth constituency in the state has always been fully engaged with the appointment of some vibrant and brilliant youths into government positions, adding that the state government under his watch also created a job portal, enacted a local content law where a large number of youths in the state have been getting employment opportunities till date.
Speaking about the criticisms he faced in the last few weeks, Governor Abiodun said he is not disturbed by the various attacks on social media, saying he will continue to work towards moving the state forward without being distracted by such attacks.
In a separate remark, the state chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Comrade Kolawole Soremi and leader of Ogun Youth Ambassador, Barrister Habeeb Whyte said they came to commend the governor for his developmental strides and to intimate him of the need to further strengthen youth engagement and inclusion in his government.
They appealed for the need to have a commissioner for youth as well as constant interaction with the youth constituency on various issues that have to do with the nation’s socio-economic development
