The Chief Judge of Oyo State, Iyabo Yerima, has described Justice Adegboyega Gbolagunte as a selfless and hardworking judge and would be greatly missed.

Justice  Yerima made the remark at the Special Valedictory Court Session held in honour of late Justice Adegboyega Gbolagunte at the Oyo State High Court complex, Ring Road, Ibadan

Other dignitaries, who paid glowing tributes to Justice Gbolagunte, included representatives of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi.

Son of the deceased, who spoke on behalf of the family, Mr Oladiran Gbolagunte while appreciating the guests for their kind words for his father,  said the exemplary legacy left by their father would not be forgotten 

Justice Adegoyega Gbolagunte, who was a time part-time lecturer at Radio Nigeria Training School, Lagos died at the age of sixty-four while still in active service

At the occasion, the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Ibadan Branch, Mr Ibrahim Lawal called on the Oyo State Government and the National Judicial Service Commission to, as a matter of urgency, appoint more judges in the state for quick dispensation of justice.

Mr Lawal, who noted that the state currently had nineteen judges instead of at least forty legally provided for, is worrisome and the workload was taking a toll on members of the bench.

The NBA chairman also advocated the prioritising of the welfare of judges and magistrates to avoid a state of lawlessness in society.

In her address, the Chief judge of Oyo State, Iyabo Yerima said recommendations for the appointment of more judges in the state had been sent to the appropriate body for consideration.
