The Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Ogun State Council has commended the state governor, Dapo Abiodun for the release of an additional two billion naira to offset the gratuity payments of pensioners in the state.
In a joint statement by the NUP Chairman, Comrade Waheed Oloyede and Secretary, Comrade Bola Lawal describes the payment as a lifesaver.
The statement urges Governor Abiodun to further approve the request for the release of the long-awaited’ consequential increase in the pensions along with the impending new minimum wage increase.
It notes that the approval of the consequential increase will no doubt increase the economic powers of the vulnerable retiree at the open market and also offer them the opportunity to live healthy life at the wake of the present ever-soaring inflationary trends before death comes knocking
